Default 1993 Honda CBR600 F2-Aligning Jets?

Does anyone know where I can get some information on how to align the jets on my bike and clean the carbs? Any info that you could give me would be appreciated. Thanks

Align? I've never heard of that. Jets are seated firmly in their tapped holes. What's to align?

To clean carbs you either run some fluid through the gas or through the airbox, or you remove and disassemble them.

Oh sure you have. Aligned jets......that's like the Blue Angels when they fly in formation!

Default Carb synch?

I may have been confused. I was talking to someone about what may be making my bike run rough in the higher rpm range. I know he said that the carbs may need to be cleaned and I thought that he said that since the milage was high the jets might need to be aligned, but I may be wrong. I did some reading and it said that sometimes the carbs need to be synched so maybe that is what he was talking about. Any info on that?

Just couldn't resist the temptation to make a smart-assed remark. Sorry.

Your first post did neglect to tell US what the problem is though!

I think your best first step would be to run some carb. cleaner (NOT fuel injector cleaner) through it first. Original Gumout or Berryman's B12 are good for a shock cleaning. With about 1/2 tank of gas, put in twice the recommended amount of cleaner (i.e. if the can says 1 oz. per gallon and you guess the tank has 1 gal. in it, put in 2 oz. of cleaner).

Ride it for 1/2 hour or so. Park it overnight. Fill up the tank. Ride normally and put the recommended amount of cleaner in the next couple of tank fulls.

Your might notice that the roughness gets slightly worse before it gets better.
This is usually a good sign that the cleaner is working.

Carb sync'ing is not rocket science but it takes some special equipment. If you are not an experienced mechanic, that operation probably should be left to someone who is (and has the necessary tools).

ER's right. I bought Motion Pro's mercury stick set, and it was easy to use.

Default Stumped

I think that I going to have to have someone fix it for me now. I had already tried running carb cleaner through the gas and it didn't work. I tried taking off the tank and air box to spray the carbs yesterday with cleaner, but now it won't even turn over. I have no idea what could be wrong now.

Surely it's still turning over unless you drained the battery. It may not be firing if you doused it too much, but some dry time and cranking should bring it back. Put a trickle charger on the battery in the meantime.

Default Maybe the battery

The battery is almost dead, so maybe it just needs a charge. I thought that it may just need dry time, so I let it dry overnight. I'm going to try charging the battery and see if that helps. Oh, I might as well ask this too. I thought that I may have flooded the engine out originally so I was going to pull the plugs and let them dry out, but they are deep as hell in the engine. Any special tools to get down in there?

I'd get the battery hopping first. You probably won't need to pull the plugs unless you really hosed it down. Usually a standard plug socket (with the rubber ring) and a short extension will do the job.

Default Thanks

I got it running. I charged the battery and pumped the throttle a little bit, cause when I tried to start it it smelled funny but not like gas. I figured that it must have been some of the carb cleaner still in there. Once that got through it fired right up. Thanks for your help guys!

Hey Red how much...I've been quoted $130.00 for a sync and over $300 for gauges plus I don't like others playing with something I can do myself

Apparently the gub'ment stepped in and said they can't make the mercury ones any more. Here's the replacement, though you might still find someone with the mercury sticks in stock. They went for about $35 here.
