| So my friend bought a '93 Suzuki Katana GSX600F a few years ago. He forgot to get the title with it, but that's another story, and a battle I need to fight after I get it running properly. He never tried to run it until a year after he bought it, so needless to say it didn't start. And it sat for two more years in pieces. And then it was delivered to my garage for "storage". Another friend of mine (one of my competent friends) and I got it running - barely. At least now it runs on 1/4 choke. We also "adjusted" the fuel petcock so that fuel would flow to the engine, and played with a screw at the bottom of the carburetors. We both know cars pretty well, but motorcycles are kind of new to us. So, the list of things that I need to do to the bike to get it running smoothly includes the following: Change oil and oil filter Change the spark plugs Replace the battery (the old one leaked all over the bike) I know I need to tune the carburetors, but how? I took them apart and the jets look good and everything is really clean. What does that screw at the bottom of the carburetors do that I adjusted (fuel mixture?, idle adjustment?) and what should it be set to (it has a K&N air filter on it if that matters)? Have I missed anything? Help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

| I think the screw you found is one of three used for carb synchronization. You need a carb sync tool to get it right. Also, are you sure that you have everything connected to the petcock properly? If you miss the vacuum hose, it won't run for sh#t. Try setting the petcock to prime temporarily and see if it runs right. If so, the vacuum isn't getting to the petcock.

| Oh yeah, check out www.katanaplanet.com for help as well. There are quite a few knowledgable people there that should be able to help.

| The carbs are cleaned - good thing - so main thing to do is now sync them, this is done using a manometer and should be performed at ~1800rpm, this will get the carbs opening up all at the same time, the bolts/screws on either side are for the fuel/air mixture (i think) and the idle is adjusted by a lone bolt/screw on the furthest left hand side. The vacuum hose attaches to the right hand side of the carbs and to the back of the petcock, also make sure you put the main fuel and reserve fuel lines on the correct sides (i have done this wrong, very embarrasing running out of pertrol because of this!). Am about to do the same to my carbs on my '96 gsx600 this weekend so will post an apology if i have mislead you here. |
