1978 GS 550/750 Engine Compatibility - Motorcycle-Journal Forums

I recently aquired a 1978 Suzuki GS 550. The engine is crap. My mechanic told me that it would be a waste to rebuild the engine and if I could find a new one, it would make my life easier. Now, since I have to get a new engine, I was wondering if the GS 750 engine would fit in the GS 550 frame. (It was my understanding that the frame was the same for those bikes.) Does anyone know what engines are interchangeable between the 550s and the 750s that were produced between 77 and 79?

i'm not sure if they're interchangable, but you could map out whare the engine mounts are and the engine dimensions, go on over to the closest salvage yard and check it out. good luck.
