Default Fork Questions

This is the second time that my roommate and I tore apart the forks for his '90 CBR600F. When we did the first repair, we only replaced the fork seal and wiper. A few weeks later, the fork was still leaking oil, and thanks to the help of this community, we realized that we never changed the guide bushing. Upon further inspection of the fork parts this time around, we found the following issues.

Right fork tube damage (1)

Right fork tube damage (2)
No doubt that these divots are causing some leakage. Many have recommended using a sharpening stone to smooth out the damage, but we plan on using 2000 grit sandpaper.

Discoloration on fork tube
Is this normal?

Slider Bushing
As you can see, there's some significant scarring on the inside of the slider bushing. We stopped work at this point to order replacement parts.

We also rolled each of the fork tubes along the flattest surface we could find in the house (kitchen counter), and the tubes seemed to be straight. Next weekend we'll be replacing all the bad parts and reassembling the bike.

To recap the questions we have:

1) Is it ill-advised to use 2000-grit sandpaper to smooth the fork tubes?
2) Is the discoloration at the end of the fork tube normal?
3) What would cause damage to the inside of the slider bushing?

Thanks in advance.
