Default clinking sound and brake pad squealing

Hi,

I own a 2004 Intruder 800. It only has 140kms on it, pretty much still in the breakin period. I am noticing some clinking sound, can't really specify front or back but it sounds like a bicycle bell "ding-ding" when the tires are spinning. Happens very sporadic...sometimes constantly and sometimes it goes away. Can't figure out what it is...

secondly, sometimes i hear the brake squealing from the back drum and the front disc squeaking. Is this normal in the first while or do i need adjusting?

Thanks.

The 'bell noise' should be brought to the attention of your dealer at the 1000 km service, as it could be just about anything from a loose bolt to an improperly greased/ torqued bearing to an improperly installed wheel spoke. But that's what the first service is for; to correct little problems from when the bike was put together at the dealer.
Intruder factory front brakes squeel, no matter how new or old the bike is, because there are no anti-rattle clips or grease put on from the factory. Remove the pads and add some of that blue disk brake grease you get at an auto parts store to the back of the pads, and put them back on. This will stop the squeel and help them last longer. Or better yet, swap to aftermarket kevlar brake pads and use the blue grease, and not only will they stop squeeling but they will grab better and last twice as long.
The rear brake probably needs adjustment, as it may not have enough free play in it. Intruder rear brake shoes are usually pretty quiet, and last for a good 30,000 + km.
Other than the front brake squeel, and that the gas cap will start to rattle after a few years (a new on is about $15), Intruders are bullet proof and will last forever, needing very little maintenance and having basically no mechanical problems. Mine has 34,000 kilometers on it, and other than change the oil, swap the front brake pads, and put on a new set of tires, I have done nothing to it yet. A friend has over 150,000 km on his, and has had no mechanical problems either.
Enjoy your bike!
