I bought this '79 Suzuki GS750 last summer for cheap. It had been sitting for I don't know how long, and wasn't running. The previous owner had drained the oil and and the float bowls. I set the points gap and replaced the plugs. It has spark. It wouldn't start, so I pulled the carbs and cleaned them out. While the carbs were off I tried squirting an eyedropper of fresh gas down the intakes and tried the starter. The engine turned over, revved up and died, and I was able to do this several times. But I noticed that occasionally, while I was cranking, before it turns over, pressure would be blowing gas mist OUT of the INTAKE, and a few times a little flame would pop out of one or two of the intakes too. However, during the few seconds that it would rev up, it seemed to be retaining compression and exhausting normally. So I tried replacing the carbs, but it still wouldn't start. I cranked and cranked but nothing. So I pulled the carbs off again and noticed the intakes soaked with gas, as well as the carb throats and to some extent where the air cleaner attaches to the carbs. I don't know what I should try next. I don't know it it's a timing issue. I have a feeling some of the intake valves are stuck open from sitting unused for so long. I don't know if that can be fixed without removing the cylinder head. Also, would adjusting the cam chain tensioner do anything? Any advice or info would be great. Cheers. |
