Hi everyone. I just obtained my first street bike, a 1995 GSX-R 750w. It has almost 19000 miles on it w/jetted carbs. For all of its life work on it has been done by a garage mechanic. The guy I bought it from said it has a new clutch (not sure how many miles are on it) I'm not sure where to ask these question, but some of them are mechanic related so I hope you don't mind. 1. Should there be any slack in my clutch cable when it is released? I've had to tighten the adjustment twice this week in the morning in order to shift into 1st (clutch lever fully depressed but for some reason it is not disengaging) I'm worried about my clutch not fully engaging now that I have tightened the cable. 2. The bike has many, many cosmetic blemishes (dropped multple times on both sides.) Would I be better off buying a new set of fairings and having that painted along with the gas tank? Or simply bondo the originals(some of which are missing various clips/mount points) and repaint them instead? 3. How do I find out if I have a low gas light? (and along these lines, how much gas mileage should I be getting?) 4. How much does it cost to have someone take apart the bike and clean it up(detailing?) Or is that something I should be able to do myself? The previous owner never rode it much, left it outside uncovered during the winter. I am currently using it as my daily driver. I am a DIY type of guy, but have never worked on engines(much less motorcycles) before (short of basic maintenance and replacing an alternator), but I would like to learn. Thanks for your help and bearing with me. |
