Default another bike backfiring...

I've recently done a full tune up on my Intruder 800 (92), and I am still having the same problem that I was experiencing before. In 5th gear when I hit 75 MPH my bike backfire bogs down chokes out for a bit resumes, then if I havent come off the throttle it will go into the same sequence. I've noticed that it also will do this in any gear at approximately the same throttle position. I dont ride the bike hard but would like to keep up with traffic on some of the faster highways. I have not tried adjusting the mixture yet, even though the person I bought the bike from added aftermarket pipes and jets. The reason being that under normal riding conditions it never has a problem; however, i am planning a cross country trip in the next 6 weeks and would like to sort this out.

Do these bikes ever have issue with comming out of timing? I bought a Clymer manual which is pretty useful, but it does not touch on ignition timing at all... .

The above situations are the only times the bike will backfire. Also I am only getting around 30 MPG. Thought I would throw that out there just in case it may tweak someones opinion as to what is causing the first problem.

Anyway, I couldnt find anything that was similar to my problem on the site so hopefully somebody has experience with this in their past.

Thanks
