i had the same thing happen to my ninja a few days ago. check your fuses - all of them (some might be hidden under / with other connectors). in my case, for some insane reason one of the screw terminals from the battery actually worked lose and it wouldn't make contact.

on my bike, there's also a connector beside the fuses, and that has a big 30A fuse in the housing. check for other fuses that are not inside the main box. no need to replace fuses that are good.

could also be a bit of corrosion on the contacts for some of the wiring, so try to check some of the connectors around there - unplug them, see if they look clean. go to an electronics store (a cheap one) and get some contact cleaner spray.

the haynes / clymer service manuals are pretty good. should be around $30 and will help you do all kinds of other maintenance work on the bike

Are you trying to start it while it's in gear and the kickstand is down?

Wiring diagram and a multi - meter. Sometimes there are no short cuts.

Let's not forget the basics here... If your battery is fine, then there's something that's stopping the flow of electricity from it.

Your bike is a 2000 model year and you live in a region that gets snow. Check your battery ground cable; look for powdery substances near the terminals on either end. A corroded ground cable could easily cause the problem you're having.

Another possibility is a bad ignition lock cylinder. I've seen it happen on cars on occasion, but I'm not sure if bikes get that problem or not.

Another helpful idea is to do some internet research and see if anyone else who has a similar bike to yours has had the same problem.
