Default will a 03 750 gsxr engine and tranny work on a 97 gsxr 750

im not really too sure about swapping from a 97 gsxr 750 to 03 gsxr 750, would the 03 engine fit in my 97 gsxr?

Anything will fit, but its all about how much modding you want to do. Lots of fabrication, splicing wires, etc etc.

No, absolutely not! If you are able to get the thing mounted up PROPERLY. You still have to rewire the NEW ECU system and wiring harness (you can't reuse the one from the '97, its setup for carbs). You cant use the carbs from the '97 because an '03 is Fuel Injected.

Unless you have a genuine reason to drop in an '03, just buy another '97. Or just buy a new bike. One of the two.

That's a plus one here.

Find another from the same year. 6 years difference is huge.

point, set, match.

Plus, finding another from the year you are looking for will take some work but won't be impossible. Let me set the stage...........

I own a 1980 xs850, made by Yamaha. I won't bore you with the details. for less than 1 k ( oh heck for less than $600) I can get another engine. You get the point.

Good luck.

Its not impossible by any stretch, theres a guy on the gixxer forums doing a writeup for this very swap.

HOWEVER, the work involved, the money involved, and the time and fabrication involved make it infeasable unless you have a true reason and desire to drop in an '03 (meaning: not just because you got the motor cheap, you'll spend twice what you spent on the motor in just the other parts alone).

the time and fabrication
That made the statement right there. How much time and effort are you willing to put into get this bike running? Look for another engine of the same vintage, easiest answer.

Best of luck to you, a '96 or '97 motor will work, HOWEVER a '98 or '99 will not as they are Fuel Injected and you'd still have to update most of the ECU and wiring for it to work.

So either a '96 or '97 750 engine.

Before you toss the motor, does the starter work? was the clutch good? There are pieces you may want to remove before tossing. If you have a corner in a garage or rental space, you may want to keep the old motor until the replacement is and running. That way and missing parts you can lean over and take them off of the old motor.

Like a starter.

Plus, who knows, maybe somebody wants parts off of it and you can part it out. Not as crazy as it seems, high performance engines always seem to need something.

I'd have to agree, save the old motor and any parts you take off (that aren't totally junk). eBay may not have made me money, but it certainly helps keep me from going broke when working on projects, cause I can sell the old parts and help reduce the cost of the new stuff.

gonna have to do that one of these days. Except I know I'll just end up buying carp with the money from selling carp. Most prolly on E-bay.
