Default RM 250 Motor Problem

Hi Guys / Gals,
Own a 2001 model RM 250. Was out on the track recently and a weird grinding sound came from the engine after a full-on start, slowed down and was able to get back to the pits. Restarted the engine and then came a knocking sound. The engine doesn't seem to have lost any compression, and after taking the spark plug out, there isn't any metal residue. I don't think it has thrown a piston ring? Will be pulling it down this weekend and checking all I can. I was thinking of checking the least major stuff first, eg: Clutch and power valve? Any thoughts from anyone out there would be greatly appreciated. Are the RM engines strong or were there any faults that may need a boost?

Cheers
