Default Speedometer Failure?

my odometer went out recently. the trip meter, odometer, and speedometer all quit. what could this be...could it be the gear box assembly, the cable, or something entirely different? thanks

Probably the speedometer cable broke. On my old GPz550, there was a kink in the cable housing and this was resulting in the inner cable breaking off.

Thanks...before it quit working, there was a high pitched whining sound that come from the front wheel. It immediately stopped when the odometer quit. I took the cable out on the odometer end and it looked OK...perhaps I should check out the other end?

the small plastic gear (that's right plastic) on the axle end probably went. And your bike is what with how many miles? (did I miss something?) Good news/bad news, boneyards have parts available, but if it is a design flaw, the used one you find may not be much better than what you have.

These cables can be rather fickle, by the way.
