| I have replaced the stator/rectifier thanks to the advice of my local suzuki shop and my bike will still not stay running. When i turn the key over i get absolutely nothing. I have jump started it but i have to keep it tacked out around 7,000 or when i take the cables off it just turns the whole bike off....Does anyone have any more ideas because i have ran out of ideas.

| two things come to mind, one cheap, one kind of expensive. one check the battery and the connections. Read the voltage (with the bike off) should be above 12 Volts. Next, if you can, pop the lids off of each cell and check the water/acid. If one cell is particularly low, you may get by with refilling it. Usually you won't and there is a "dead cell" and you need a new battery. There are batteries for sale that are AGM (gel cells) and they are more, but worth it. The other was going to be generator, but having replaced the rectifier kind of rules that out. I will say the bike generator should be at full power around 4 K, so I'm not sure why you would need to rev it quite so high. Unless there is something grounding out in the electrical system. |

| I mentioned this to another post like this - my '95 1100 did the same thing. The battery was recent, bike would start, but would run down to dead in little time. Would jump start and run long enough to get home, but then - dead. At startup RPMs with a fully charged battery, the charging system would actually show a drop in voltage. So I replaced the alternator, even though the one I had bench tested just fine. That didn't work. So a friend suggested I start the bike with the rear cover of the alternator off, and check that the alternator was turning. It wasn't, at least not smoothly. The next time I revved the engine up high, it stopped turning altogether. Suzuki mounts the alternator drive in a rubber bushing-like affair that deteriorates with age. When the rubber separates over time, it no longer turns the drive that turns the splined shaft of the alternator. Until it separates completely, you may get reduced output, but not a full charge, certainly not at lower speeds. If this is it, the parts are inexpensive. The installation procedure is a little goofy involving heat and cold, let me know if you need help. |
