Heres the complete directions, with pictures...God it even makes sense to me!!

In checking the Clymers shop manual it states to rotate the crankshaft "clockwise", The Rusk directions state "Counter clockwise". It may be that the engine they wrote the artical about was one of the several variations of this engine that DR bob talked about in another post. PAY ATTENTION.

I tried to spin it the clockwise when I kept missing the timing marks......it was a no go.

Did you try it with the sparkplugs removed? The compression stroke will moveit around for you if you did'nt. Did you then try the other way?
