hello everybody this is my first post and I need some help. yetsreday I was given a 1983 Dr 250 for free. The guy told it had been parked about a year and was parked because it either needed a stator or an ignition box. He told me knows this because he has replaced the coil/plug wire and plug and they are the only 2 parts left and it's one of the 2, and it is getting fuel. Since reiceiving the bike at around 9 last night I have removed the chain, carb, seat, gastank and cleaned the entire thing and adjusted all the various levers and removed and cleaned the whole front and rear suspension, I'm actually ready to put it back together the motor doesn't leak anything and appears to be in good order I have also changed the oil and filter and removed all the old gas as it was in no way winterized. So hears my problem I was told it's the stator or the ignition box I pulled the plug and held it in my hand and hit the kickstart I shocked me but no alot. So it is getting spark but is it enough? I have removed the stator for visual inspection and it appears to be in one piece with all the wiring intact, I removed the ignition box and saw that there was no way to open it up and look in it. So I'm at a point where I need some help, how common is it for either of these items to go out on a dirtbike even given the age is 83 this bike is in overall excellent condition, Is there a way I can test the ignition box with a voltmeter and determine if it is infact the problem any help would be very very appreciated I dont want to spend $300 on the new part and have it be the wrong part and have it still not work. another question I have had bikes in the past (cruiser) and have never seen a decompression lever I know it is hooked to the motor but what does it do? I know somebody will read this and laugh but I can't seem to find a owners manual anyplace? Anyways any help that someone could offer would be greatly appreciated. brian
