On Saturday while out riding with a passenger, I stopped for gas less than a half a mile from home and noticed a slight hissing. I picked up a nail in my rear tire!!! I was certain that I'd picked it up only a mile prior on a quick 90 degree right-hand turn, and the tire had sufficient pressure to get the hell home. ![]() At first I was upset that I'd picked up a nail, but there was no reason to be; 1) My passenger and I made it home safely, 2) My rear tire was almost toast in the first place, 3) I get a free tire with my maintenance plan. I guess the only reason I was slighty ticked was that I couldn't ride whenever I wanted. I'm sure you understand. Since I had the rear tire off, I inspected the brake pads and decided to install the new Galfer pads & wave disc that I bought a couple weeks ago. I'm posting these pics and notes as a reference to others, or so the seasoned motorcycle mechanics can tell me what I did wrong on my first moto brake job. ![]() The chipped edges of the brake lining is from slight prying with a screwdriver to compress the pistons into the cylinders. ![]() Protecting the paint from brake fluid ![]() Uneven lining wear (the inside pad had more wear than the outside) ![]() The new pad |
