Default GS550 ES not charging?

I just bought an 85 GS550 ES, and the bike just died. All the lights and everything went out, The battery was very old, and wouldnt hold a charge, so i went out and got a new one. After it was fully charged, i poped it in, and it drove great. Little while later, the bike did the same thing again, all lights and everything else went out, when i checked the voltage on the battery, it was way below what it should have been. I went back to the owner and heard this was a common problem with these bikes, that they dont charge well. IS there a site, or does anyone know about the bikes charging system, that would help me fix this? What part is it exactally that goes bad? The bikes only got about 10K on it.

Any help would be great.

Jake

Go here:

www.thegsresources.com

Ask in the technical forum and also review the charging system flow chart that have on the web site.
