Default 2000 Suzuki Marauder

I need some help. I have a 2000 Marauder with about 4600 miles on it. Since I moved to the Dallas area I have not ridden it a whole lot. The last time it was on a long ride was in January and I rode it in June when I moved (20 minutes or so). I went out to ride it the other day and of course the battery was dead. I got it charged and the bike started and died frequently. Finally I got it to idle for me. Then I go to use the throttle and the bike dies. I don't even get it throttled up at all before it dies. I went ahead and replaced the battery and filled the tank up with gas. I also put some B12 (as had been suggested to someone). I still can not get the bike to throttle up. I really feel that the neutral idle is not as high as it used to be. Any thoughts on what might be wrong or what I can do (I am not a mechanic by any means). I guess this will teach me to let my bike sit for this long. Thanks for any assistance.

Brian

I have a 2001 and let it sit a while too. Mine will run if the choke is out at a red light or stop, but when the choke is off she dies. It will run wide open fine, but doesn't want to idle. I also have new gas. I beleive new plugs might be an answer if I could find out where you get a socket 10" long to retrieve them.

In the past I would turn off the gas and let it die to clear the carbs. I wish I would have still practiced that. A dry carb and plugs won't carmalize. I'll be watching for an answer, we share the same boat.

I'd guess your carb is boogered up from sitting so long.

The first post sounds like dirty fuel. I had exactly the same problem when I had a Marauder that had sat alot and I ran it on reserve for the first time. The fix for me was the drain the tank, pull it off, rinse it out, drain all the lines (and the carb float bowl? I can't remember) then run clean gas into it just keeping the engine going until it finally burned out all the crap and ran smooth again.

If that doesn't help try 'Bulletin Board' on this site:

Marauder Intruder Group, Suzuki Motorcycles, Boulevard, Intruder 1500LC, Marauder, Intruder 1400, Intruder 800

Those guys are serious Marauder experts.

When bikes are left for long periods of time the gas turns to a varnish like substance plugging the jets. It sometimes clears with some carb. cleaner but with the time this bike sat, the carbs need to be pulled and cleaned.
Stabil is recommended when a bike is being left for a period of time.

I talk with a fellow biker today and his did the same thing. He bought some type of Foam addative to his gas from Auto Zone. It's for cars mostly, but used the old gulp gulp measuring cup on 2.4 gallons. He ran it for about 30 minutes and then let it sit all night.

Next morning it ran a little rough at first, but after a good blow out it runs good as new. I'm headed to Auto Zone to look for something with the name FOAM in it for carbs.
