Default Immediate shut down

M/c 2003 suzuki volusia....i thought i was adjusting idle but after turning knob a few times (silly me) m/c would shut down when attempting to put it in 1st gear.
The knob I refer to is at left quadrant of the gas tank directly under tank .

when started m/c idles & revs fine but when pressing into 1st gear it quits.

Any help/suggestions to right this screws up would be appreciated .

Sounds to me like you're leaving the kickstand down or the switch is faulty.
