Default jr50 Help

Hello,
This is my first post. I need some help with an 82 jr50. When I go to kick start it,it feels like it's not turning over. I have checked the kick starter and made sure its not slipping. If i use my hand and slowly turn it over,it seems to work, but wont start. Also I can start it in gear by kick starting it as long as the rear tire is off the ground. I did remove the right side cover and didnt find any broken parts. Any ideas? I really dont want to take it to the dealership!! I have worked on many different bikes, but this has me baffled. Thanks in advance.

does it really lack power, it sounds like she might need a refresher in the top end. check and see what the compression is like.
