Default Motor Oil?

I get oil for free, hoiwever it is 10W-30 oil, but my bike oil cap says 10W-40 recommended, is it very bad if i use the 10W-30, because it is free, and free stuff is always good, i have 2005 suzuki gs500

Depends... how do you "get it" for free?

> If it's used, I'd have to say no. LOL.

NOOOOO, i work at a go karts place at a theme park, and there are Shelves and shelves of it in the mechanic shed, my friend takes them and gives them to me, it is shell, and 10W-30 and rated for automobiles and "light" trucks, but the biek recommends 10W-40, i am only using this bike for a year so if it is okay and will probably not harm my bike, thats cool but if it is bad then i wont do it

lol i see how you pictured me sucking some oil out of cars at night, and technically im not stealing it, im receiving gifts!

If the bike is Liquid-cooled, I would think that it would be ok.... then again, if you ever have any warranty issues and they realize that you are putting the wrong oil in, they will look for any reason to charge you for the work.

It's generally accepted that an "energy conserving" oil may have friction additives that can adversely affect your clutch. I forget if 10-30 is EC.

I just read the bottle and it doesn't say energy conserving, it says clean engine formula, and it says it is good for all cold weather cars and light trucks where 10W-30 oil is recommended
