Red face Engine noise

I'm new here and haven't rode in a long time until recently when I purchased my 06 Suzuki C50T... and have a few questions if someone wouldn't mind answering....

I noticed that that I can hear gear noises while riding... and wasn't sure if that was normal. It's kind of hard to describe, but it is something that I would call "gear noise" and an increased "whining" as I continue to accelerate. Not sure if this is common on all bikes or now. About 10 years ago I had an 81 Yamaha 650 Maxim and noticed it as well...but never gave it much thought before. Now that I have a newer and more expensive bike, it has caused a bit of concer.

The other question I had was about changing the exhaust. From what I read, it would appear that I would have to either purchase a power module whenever pipes are changed. Is this absolutely necessary? My bike is FI...and if I don't purchase a power module...would it hurt the engine?

Thanks for you time.

Pete

The C50 does make more noise as it is a higher reving V-twin, also the fuel pump makes a little noise. As it breaks in the sound will disapate a little.

If you change your pipes and aircleaner you will either need to have your bike Flashed, a process to remap your FI contral unit, add a FI management unit.
Not all shops do the flashing, costs around $75. Go to a shop with a dyno machine and have a custom map done around $250. Buy a FI unit costing from $180 to $250.

The bikes come with a slightly lean condition, to make emission requirements.
Too lean and you damage the bike. Talk to your shop service manager, most are helpfull and will give you advise. If yours does not, find a new shop.

Your exchaust will improve in sound as they breakin, takes 3-5,000 miles, depending on your riding style.
Then there is the issue of how loud is loud for you.
I am stock and happy, then there are others who change their pipes as often as my wife buys new shoes.

On my c50t I hear a whining noise between 55 and 60 mph in top gear. I would like to know what that noise is and if it is normal. About reprogramming the computer, I drilled my pipes and remapping was not needed. If you like the stock pipes, drill or debaffle. You will save yourself a lot of money.
