| Good Morning, I was so glad to find a forum this morning that might get me rolling before the weekend is gone. I have a 2001 Suzuki VZ800. 5300 miles never a problem. I decided to take it out of the garage yesterday and give it a bath before a ride. It's been sitting up for a month and you can see by the miles, I don't ride a heck of alot. Right after I got her dry I turned the key, choked and she started up just fine for about 2 minutes and then went dead. After 2 hours of checking for water I found the main 30amp fuse was blown. I let the bike sit outside all day before cramming another 30 amp in it only to blow again and again. I have inspected every electrical connection, undid, unplugged, check battery output etc. She's still blowing the 30 amp main. Got anybody with a fix? My name is Steve from Baytown,Tx on Trinity Bay and thanks for any help. |

| Are their 2 30 amp fuses located right near the battery on an 01? At 1st glance I'd yell short if it's starting and running before the blown fuse. If you checked most connection (damn I hate electrical issues) water could be pooling into a wire somewhere causing that short. I'm trying to rack my brain (that's a chore in and of itself) for an issue. when you started it up and it blew again..where u riding or just letting it sit and idle? Short of taking a blow dryer to ever single connection I'm at an immediate loss.

| Nope, just one (1) 30 amp. I can hit the start button this morning, starter turns and blow there goes that fuse again. There are two relays. One is for the ignition and the other ???? All the 10 and 15amps are good to go. I disconnected all electrical connections, sprayed with electracaclean. I guess a pool could be in the harnest somewhere. I hate the electrical myself and I'm an electrical designer by trade. Maybe a little time in the heat. Steve |

| If you get it started again, immediately go for a ride. The jostling and leaning might help dry it out. Just don't get too far from home.

| I'll let you know. It's 4:35 in Baytown and 98 degrees. That is about 105 heat index and it stays like that until October. Here goes another 50 year old pushing a bike. Wish me luck or a good doctor. Steve |

| I have to tell you. I must be getting old. I wore myself out pushing that bike. Never got enough speed to get it cranked. I guess when it comes time to get serious again, I'll get some help. I was trying to avoid parts and labor at the dealer.Keep the thighs chaffed, Steve |

| My battery reads 12V's and is hot. I hit my pliers on the +/- while pulling the fuse and the sparks flew. I tried opening up the ignition switch where the key goes and didn't have the right tools. Small star bit, very small. I try again to get a tow behind my truck. I hear holding the rope yourself is the safe way. You can let go when you have too. I just need three arms. The fuse blows now when I turn on the key????????????????? Darnit, Steve |

| Agreed. Do not tow a bike like that! All you need is one or two people to push you.

| Even if you do pop start it you still have a short some where past the fuse. You could start disconecting electrical componets past the fuse try to track down the short. I also saw someone hook a light up to where a fuse goes and start messing with things untill the light goes out. If your starter is drawing too many amps it will blow the fuse, could be a bad starter. My $0.02 |

| Thanks Guys, I do have an amp meter. Seems to me everything on the primary side (from battery to load center where the fuses and battery leads goe too) is looking fine. From there on the secondary side is all you harnest connections that vien to your horn, lights, blincker etc. Plus the leads down to the starter. I would imagine at the moment that the starter is the problem, being the fuse blow as soon as I hit the electric start button. Looks like a lot of hardware to be removed to replace that puppy and some nuts and bolts seem to be another size rather than just metric. Say it ain't so. Kaikias, I believe you might be right. Thanks for the .02 cents. Hope in isn't over $100. Yall ride safe while I'm down. I believe I'll go fishing this weekend. My boat runs great. Later, Steve |
