Default starts and dies, starts and dies, ....

Hey everybody. I just bought a 1979 GS1000L and I am having a hard time keeping it running. This morning I had to jump it to get it running, but then it would just die on me. Start it again, had to stay on the throttle to keep it running. But once I let go, would idle rough for a little bit then die. I plan on getting a new battery, but what else could be causing this? The carbs are brand new, but they need the idle adjusted. Any ideas? Thanks.

BTW-- where is a good place to get a service manual?

Default bike dies-

I would guess that your idle speed is too low, which is why the bike will run if you give it some throttle but die when you let off the throttle.
Also check for leaks around the carb bases, for a loose plug wire, and that your choke is adusted properly.
