Default The dreaded battery

An update to my Suzuki problem adventures...

I got the rust off the battery terminal of my 2003 Suzuki Intruder with a little vinegar+salt homemade remedy, and my stepfather tapped both of the holes to get the screws out and put new ones in. The only problem is that my stepfather drilled too close to one of the sides, so one of the screws is slightly visible, but the terminal remained intact.

We put the battery back on and I turned the key, but no power came on. I turned it off and stepped off the bike, we looked at it for a second, then I turned it on again and the lights came on. Reliability, thy name is Suzuki.

To make matters worse, after I rode it up and down my street for about two miles, I noticed that all the lights were flickering slightly when I came to an idling stop. Higher RPMs seemed to make the light stay solid, but when I eased off the throttle, they flickered again.

This is exactly what happened 10,000 miles ago when the shop insisted they fixed the problem. It flickered slightly at first, then the bike just straight up shut off about a week later.

I am... tired. I can't explain exactly how I feel... just that I'm tired of these problems that I fix, just to have two more pop up. Suzuki has really let me down with both of these problem-ridden bikes, and the fact that I've been reimbursed by only about 20% of the cash I've spent repairing all these problems.

I'm taking my bike in to an independent dealership, whose boss I kind of know. It's depressing that I'm going to get somewhere around a $500-$700 repair bill for this electric thing + maintenance, which is basically a month of work at my job, but if I want to sell this bike off in rideable condition, I have little other recourse.

Before it goes in on Monday, can anyone weigh in on what the flickering problem may be?

The first time this happened, Puente Hills Motorsports (naming names here. Don't go to these people; they're incompetent and rude) simply tightened a screw and called it "fixed." The second time, they tightened a screw with locktight and called it "fixed." The third time, they charged me for a new $100 battery and called it "fixed."

Now it's happening again, and it's only a matter of time before the bike simply refuses to carry a charge and start again. I just hope I'm not on the freeway when it happens, like the last three times.

Thanks for any help,
Chris
