Default 2004 GSX R600 first time service job questions...

well folks, I have 600 miles on it and the place where I bought it from says that it is time for a service job. Now, my question to you all is this...... they are wanting to charge me almost $90 to have this done

What all needs to be included in the first maintenance job of my bike?

I am mechanicly inclined and really don't want to pay out the butt to get this done. Would you all recommend that I service this myself or take it in?
Surely I can handle doing what needs to be done..??

Your help would be appreciated. Thanks

The owner's manual should tell you what service is needed. Probably the most important thing is to change the oil and filter. I'd also check/adjust/lubricate the chain (if so equipped), check/adjust cables, tire pressure, tighten nuts and bolts as needed, brake fluid level, coolant (if applicable). Maybe check lights and turn signals.

My new bike is coming up on 600 miles too, and I intend to service it myself.

Oil, oil filter, sych throttle bodies, adjust chain & cables. Retorque important nuts and bolts. Top off any fuids. Some require a valve adjustment, your maintenance schedule will tell you if you need one or not at 600 miles.
