i need help with the electrical system. at idle the lights dim and the horn doesn't work until i increase engine speed considerably. also i can not add any further load such as lights. thanks

If you don't have one, try to get a good shop manual. Check the voltage/amp output from the gen/alt. to see if it's within spec. Do the same for the Batt. A lot of the older bikes don't put out much if any extra juice at idle, they need to pop up to 2-2.5k before kicking in. If the gen./alt. is bad, look for a higher amp one to replace it.
