Angry 2002 Volusia 800 Noisy Gear Box??

Hello Everyone, Have A Question. I Purchased A 2002 Volusia 800 Last Summer. It Seems That When Shifting From First To Second Gear, Its A Bit Stiff And Noisy, Every Other Gear Shifts Fine. It Seems To Get Smoother As The Bike Gets Hotter Though. Is This Normal?????

This was often the case for new bikes but would imrpove over time. Is the mileage real low ?, if it wasn't ridden a lot maybe it just didn't have to to break in.

Different oils seem to help, the synthetics ( motorcycle grade ) often magically made the noise go away.

Although if there is several thousand miles on it I would dig deeper.
