Default DR650SE seat height

Hi there!

just picked up a 2003 DR650SE, and from reading the manual I believe one of the previous owners must have lowered the seat height. It say's it can be done in the manual but not how. I would like to set it back to full height as I'm 6' 2" and find it a bit short but cant find any info. on this. Is this something I can do myself or do I need to take it to a dealer (4 hour round trip), If some one could point me in the right direction that would be awesome!

Did they shave the seat foam or was it through the suspension. Either way you could prob. do it yourself.

if its the seat just find another one.
if its the suspension. Then there is prob. some type of lowering link on the rear and the forks I would think should just need pulled back down the clamp. maybe someone else will be along with a bit more insight, but those are my thoughts.

The suspension was lowered. Says it can be adjusted in the manual by your dealer. Also says go to the dealer for an oil change! So I’m just wondering if it’s all that difficult?

come on people I know somebody here has a bit more knowledge on this then I.
You should not have to take your bike in for an oil change. Most do it themselves. Do you have a service manual for your bike. If not it would be a wise investment. Those books will save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars if you are even somewhat mechanically inclined. I have never lowered the suspension on any bike as of yet. Though I am considering it on my current one. But I would imagine it to be something you could probably do yourself. "don't quote me on that though"

Default Got yer answer...

I have everything you need to know to do this and will gladly share if you have access to a fax machine. It involves removing and partial disassembly of both front forks and the rear shock. A few special tools are required but no parts (if you cut down the kick stand and shorten it yourself). The Suzy guys ingeniously designed the conversion right into the shocks so all you have to do is flip some parts around inside. This WILL lower your ground clearance you know......

I myself have not done this but I am contemplating it. I drag the skid plate quite often the way things are and don't know if I want it evern lower. If I really need the special tools, I might just pull the forks and shock off and cart them up to the dealer and let them do the tricky part. They said that would be OK with them. I would HOPE that they have the tools in their little bag of tricks.

You could do like I did and go to the dealer and ask to look at the service manual. There is a 9 page write up that explains the whole deal in section 5.

I do not have a shop manual, but I believe there are two set of hole in the lower shock mount. One I believe is so you can lower the back and then drop the forks in the triple tree is how you lower it. So just reverse it.
