Greg,

As far as I know, the GSX-R 750 is not sold with a restrictor. The 600'er is available as a 34 hp model, but there would be no point in restricting the 150 hp 750 down to 34 hp.

1) If the bike is restricted, there is no way to remove the restriction by cutting a wire to the ECU. You will need to have the ECU reprogrammed in order to remove any restrictor.

2) Buy a repair manual for YOUR bike. This is, for the most part, a north-american forum. Bikes sold in the EU have different specifications and different wiring.

3) If you want to wheelie, you should change the sprockets. Get a smaller front sprocket and a larger rear (-1 / +1), which will reduce your top speed, but increase low end power (to get the nose up).

Are you serious? A 750 limited to 60 miles per hour? Is it running on more than one cylinder?

Only thing I can think of is that it has had the restrictor added after it was first sold, to the guy who only put 250km on it.
Not sure about France, but in the UK people on restricted licences get them fitted so they have the bike they like, but they can't have the power.
I would get in touch with the previous owner, their name should be on the registration document.

Here in Norway why have both 34hp and 100hp restrictors. The 34hp restrictor is for people under 21 years of age or who has not had their lisence for two years yet. On the other hand, bikes like these can be sold, brand spanking new, with a 100hp restrictor and then you save some bucks. Everybody removes the restrictor though, but if there should be any trouble with insurance, you're ****ed. Because ? Yes, because the bike is registered with 100hp, not 150hp

In Germany, there used to be an informal agreement between the bike manufacturers that the would restrict all streetbikes to 100hp and 250kmh top speed. This was primarily due to the fact that engine power was increasing faster than suspension and brake technology. Many of the old "muscle bikes" from the late 80s and early 90s could only be handled by very experienced riders. A newbie on one of these bikes had one foot in the grave before they even left the parking lot.

My bike (introduced in 2001, mine is a 2003), has adjustable front forks and rear shocks, dual 6-piston front discs and a 4-piston rear disc brake. If I want to push the bike even harder, I have an option for a steering damper. These technologies were simply not available for bikes 15 years ago...

As the supersport bikes started to be introduced on the streets in the late 90s, the suspension and brake techology had caught up, so the manufacturers started to push the power envelope up again. Today, you can buy a Yamaha R1 with a ratio 1:1 (weight in KG : horsepower) - 172 kg weight : 172 horsepower.

Hi greg,

Where did you get the ecu from? I'm based in dublin, The garda (our police) are a bit laid back about restrictions and noise levels from bikes.

I know of some guys on restricted lic. riding gsx-r 1000's TLR and one on a busa. They have all be riding for years

More than likely the ecu is not restricted.

From talking to a mate of mine that had his bike factory restricted, it was not electronically restricted. Will get more information off him.
