Default 3rd to neutral

Every once in awhile when I downshift from 3rd to 2nd gear, the bike goes into neutral. If if let out the clutch, engage it again, and give the shifter a little harder press, it goes down into 2nd just fine. Any reason this may be happening?

It's 24 years old?

Bike trannies are different than car trannies. There can be enough wear in them that the dogs don't engage the gears fully, and the shaft spins free. I don't have a solution for you, but I'm not experienced with older bikes.

An oldie but a goody. Is this something I should be worried about, or just kinda ignore it? Like I said, it doesn't happen often, just every once in awhile when I guess I don't shift down hard enough.
