Default DRZ400, Not starting and then Backfiring

Hey all, a noob here as I've only had a bike for 6 months and after my first trip away I can't get it started.

Here's the problem in a little more detail:

I went home for two weeks during the holidays, came back and when I went to start the bike it didn't turn over. I pressed the ignition and tried the choke. It would turn over but not catch. I then tried to prime it and eventually it started to backfire. At this point I left it alone. During the two weeks it was in a underground lot but I do live in vancouver so I'm sure plenty of moisture gets into the garage. I don't want to hurt the bike as it is not even a year old and I ride it pretty much every day. Should I just keep trying some more or could this be a big problem?

Talking Couldn't wait for a response

Well i couldn't wait for a response as it has been a couple of weeks and I needed at least a little ride. So I went back down stairs and after much throttling and starting I got her started up and went for a ride. I think i may have flooded the engine in the first attempt to get it started. Still i am a little concerned so anyone with input i'd love to hear it.

So much to learn but at least I now have suzuki-bikes as a resource. Thanks for the great forums.
