Default Lowering my Katana 600

I'm only 5ft 5in so there are very few choices of bikes for me out there. I bought a Katana 600 because it has one of the lowest seat heights out there and is very comfortable however I would like to lower it a little more for more control at stops and starts. I've found that on a flat surface I have no problems but on inclines it's a problem to control the bike.

My questions are

1. How much can I safely lower it without affecting the performance of the bike.

2. Where can I go to check out after market kits to lower it and are there any suggestions about what to get.

You might want to ask this question at www.katanaplanet.com as well. There are many Katana owners there and someone should know.

Yep, I've signed up for those forums as well however it still says I don't have permissions to read or post on their forums. I've e-mailed them and awaiting a response.

In the mean time can anyone tell me what performance problems I could run into lowering a bike by a 1/2 in - 1 inch?
