| I have a Suzuki DR Z400 with a dying battery. Well...the battery is new but it won't stay charged. It doesn't run down very fast. Maybe after several rides it will need to be recharged. Looking for anyone that has had the same problem. Could it be the rectifier or stator?

| Clunked into first gear ![]() | Depending on the age of the battery it could be the battery. Age of the batt. as well as constantly checking the fluid level in the cells are very important. An aging battery can slowly drain itself off. A battery w/ 1 or more dead or near dry cells can do the same thing. These can quickly lead to a replacement need. Big issue here: if you have 1 or more dry cells, DO NOT try to refill them as they are already dead cells; replace the battery. Next, you could have a rectifier/stator issue. Again, age could have something to do with it. The output can be checked by a shop. Last, you could have a power drain in your electrical system somewhere that is draining power slowly as it grounds out somewhere on the bike. This is simply a matter of going wire by wire narrowing the culprit down.
