Default Question for Intruder owners...

A friend of mine has a 2003 VS1400 Intruder and wants to change his
oil. Well, another guy told him that there are like three drain plugs to
remove and two different oils to be replaced, Is this true? I know on a
Harley that there is seperate oils for the engine and transmission, but
on a Suzuki, can anyone shed any light on this? He has no owners
manual and a repair manual is a couple of weeks away.

The engine/ transmission oil is drained from the drain plug at the bottom of the motor. There is also a drain plug on the bottom of the oil cooler, as a one-way valve prevents the oil from running out of the cooler back down into the pan. You will only get a very small amount from the oil cooler, so many people don't bother to drain it when they change the oil.
The third drain plug in on the shaft drive unit by the rear wheel, but this gear lube only needs to be changed every 20,000 miles or so.

Thanks DrBob, that is kind of what I figured as far as drive unit and trans, but I
couldn't think of any other drain plugs. Some older Kaws had a plug at the filter
besides the actual drain so I was thinking maybe that was the case here. Thanks
again for your help.
