Default Billet mounting hardware, luggage rack

I got my mounting brackets and luggage rack (the billet type) to mount my trunk on, but had a heck of a time getting it to fit right. Word of warning, the billet stuff is a 3 peice set; the mounting brackets, the luggage rack, AND the sissy bar. I did not order the sissy bar since the trunk has a backrest, but had to jerry-rig the mounting harware/rack because the bolts needed to fit it all together come in the sissy bar package; the sissy bar has the threads for the bolts that go thru the mounting hardware, luggage rack bracket, and into the threaded holes on the sissy bar.

I ended up scouring the town for a 4ea 10mm X 25mm "Button Head Hex" bolt and nuts in order to mount it since I didn't have the seat. Never found the 10mm, but ordered them, so I'm temporarily using 3/8" button head hex bolts (slightly smaller, and shorter than I'd like). I had to loosen the mounting hardware bolts to get the bracket to come close to the brackets for the luggage rack. I thought for sure I was doing something wrong becuase there was a 1/2" gap on each side of the luggage rack brackets to the mounting hardware, until the dealership mechanics said that was the way they had to do it as well. I'll post pics tonight.

I don't like the way it looks, but I love the functionality as a trunk/backrest...how long would you estimate it would take you to remove it if you didn't need it?

Functionality is good, but I think matching hard saddlebags will complement the trunk nicely. Forking over the dinero to get the saddlebags is another thing though...

Yes, you're probably right, getting the bags may make it look better, but then you've got a C50....lol.

I was thinking maybe a M50T, how about that? Just add windshield.

It'd probably take me under 5 min to take it off. A co-worker that rides a HD suggested wingnuts to make it quicker to remove. There's 4 bolts that hold it onto the luggage rack, and they're acually much longer than they need to be, so I'll have to trim them down. I'm not too sure about the wingnut idea, since the trunk is also there for security, and I wouldn't want Joe Schmoe just walking up and undoing the wingnuts and walking off with it.

I agree, and think that saddlebags would even out the look, but I must say, the functionality of it is awesome. Who want's to be seen holding a gallon of milk in their lap when the wife calls you and tells you to stop by the store on your way back from a Sunday ride. I also regularily ride to work, and need the space to put my stuff, so this works great, and makes my bike different. The trunk does what I need it to do, and doesn't look like a grey/plain trunk.

As far as the windshield comment goes... I've already got one
Don't get me wrong, the C50 looks OK, but I'm just not a fan of the "classic" look with the big splashguards & fenders. I have the windshield off for the short ride to work in stop-and-go traffic, but you can bet your bottom dollar that when I go on a long ride, I'll have it on. The wind is horribly dehydrating, and the bugs on Texas back roads can make you feel like you're in a downpour of 'em in some places. Heck, I actually thought it was raining one night becuase I was hitting so many.

I love all of your opinions, I share so that others can decide for themselves whether or not they like it, or can use it. I think Zuki is just a bling-perpetuator And I'm infected just like most of us hehehe...

Yeah, I made the windshield comment, but I wasn't suggesting the M50 needed a classic styling makeover. The M50 looks good with a sport type windshield in my opinion. I have a pop top on mine now, but I may be looking to getting a larger shield (of the sport type) as the nights are starting to get cooler. I want to eventually get a set of hard saddlebags and even a trunk (possible winter projects). That way, I can lessen my reliance on the backpack for my errands.

No ding on ya' EZ Just saying I already had one. I have a sportshield on the way, the Memphis Fats 19" was just a little too big, I got the pop top as well. It should be here in about a week.

Oh great. Drag me in on this one too. It's all Zuki's fault ... waaaa, waaaa, waaaaaaaaaaaa ... Sheesh. I wasn't a fan of the Suzuki backrest that I had installed on mine, but it's nice to know it's there when I need it. I do like the way the trunk serves as a backrest, and can definitely appreciate the functionality. However, it's not my cup of tea - but if it does what you want it to do, and you like it, then who's to say you're wrong, right?
