Thumbs down Plastic frame neck covers

I dont like it. i digress...I like the way it looks... but what I don't like, It's plasticiness and it's supernatural ability to scratch by merely looking at it.

Ok here is the story...The day I bought my bike I had to ride about 30 mi from the dealership. The 2 keys I received with my bike were on the same key chain, and by the time i made my destination i was awarded with a nice circular set of scratches around the ignition. Now being the first day of having a new bike I was understandably a little bummed to see scratches on my new bike. I have since removed the second key, a smart idea anyway, and not wanting to scratch the plastic more run just the single key with no keychain... resulting in many misplaced keys LOL.

Soooo... A. any ideas on how to cover or protect the neck covers?
B. what kind of keychain do you guys use

I use a ring that is it. Then I got a snap klip I keep the kneck key and house key on. When I get where I'm going I just clip them all back together then when I go I just use the ignition key again. YES I LEARNED THE HARD WAY TOO!!!!!!!!!! No ideas on the covers.

Yeah I have a snap lock too, you just have to be pedantic with the key when taking it outa the lock. Saw a guy on a C90 with chrome neck covers. Doesn't help your problem but soon they will have to chrome the tyres as there wont be anything else left to chrome!

i had the same prob as soon as i got my bike home from the dealership...but i remembered i bought some "carbon fiber" vinyl decal sheet, that you can cut into any shape you want, it's vinyl, so it'll last a few years, i cut a little shaped crescent-oval thingy, and covered the bottom part of the ignition area, so keys will be resting on that, also covered up those scratches...i believe i bought them from ebay about 2 yrs. ago...they come in pre cut 12" by 12" or somethin. I'm thinkin i might put some over the tank area close to the seat...or wait til they make tank bras for the m50, cause that area is prone to scratches too.

Lightbulb Chrome Neck Cover

Bummer. My dealer gave me a soft rubber key holder (cheap advertising I suppose fo him), and I haven't seen any marks. But I do see the thing swing around violently on the highway.

If you like the look of chrome, Show Chrome makes one that you could replace your scratched up one. It might require the tank to be moved to install.

Suzuki also offers the chrome neck covers, saw it on my dealers website whilst browsing.

It happened to me too, thought having a chain would keep me from loosing the (%*&(& key.

Someday I'll wax 'er up, maybe it'll go away???????

only thing about chrome is it looks like crap when it scratches too!

i was smart and i put ONLY THE KEY into the keyhole....all other keys and rings stay in my pocket. when im done, the key goes back onto its ring with all other keys. Car keys are on other half of snap thing...so they stay home and just house keys go in pocket when riding.

only thing is...i have scratches too...and have never put anything but the key in....so...i must have looked at it too much like Kenny mentioned!

Me too. I use only the key, and keep my car/house keys in my back pocket. I got the complimentary circular scratches on the way home from the dealer. Now I just keep the bike key all alone - no ring or anything. I do find that they scratch real easy anyway, especially if you have them off and on doing things under them. I have some stuff I got from work that seems to help buff them out a little, but for the most part if you get 'em, you got 'em.

I just found out those circular scratches actually adds horsepower....yup..it's the newest mod..AKA "the circular ignition scratch mod" all the kids will be doing it soon. I gained almost 5 HP. Of course instantly lost the 5 hp when I removed the suzuki sticker off the rear fender...Oh well you win some, you lose some

I didn't consider them because I like them black - the less chrome to me the better, as the blacked out look is one thing that drew me to the bike in the first place. I'm even going to have my windshield brackets powder coated black to blend in. If only you could get the black replacements cheap, but then I'd have them scratched up within a week. I wonder if you got a new set and shot a coat of clear over them if it would reduce the tendency to scratch? Maybe even just paint the scratched up ones?

I have a "lucky" key chain that i've been using on all my bikes.Everytime I sell a bike the key chain comes with me to my new bike so I did the same thing as KNIGHTENFORCER but insted I used clear vinyl tape.
I took my time applying it and you cant even tell it there.

I for one do not really like the chrome neck covers. On the M50, it seems out of place considering the bottom of them just cuts off into the black frame ... looks tacky to me ... kinda like those chromed fuel doors on cagers. If you like chrome, add a set of highway bars with the chrome neck covers and the visual flow might come together better. Just my opinion.

clear vinyl tape...not a bad idea....3M makes stuff for "clear bra" type applications on the front of the car and back of mirrors (my RX8 came with a few pieces, though not across the whole front where really needed).

Dealer gave me two keys on one of those temporary key rings. One key had a piece of clear tubing over it to prevent scratching. I did not even chance it though. Always use a single key. Never even put it on a keyring.
