i was kinda hoping you were right jpw, but reading through this whole thread again, i see where nickmimi had said it was the original amber bulbs that melted his plastic originally. so the CA replacements are made cheaper than the OEM stuff....that sux.

i forgot the paperwork today, but will call them tonight or tomorrow and see what happens.

Don't know about that, but I can tell you that the CA plastic housing feels lighter and cheaper in quality compared to the OEM. None of this really concerns me anymore anyhow ... . But I hope you guys get it resolved.

Just got the replacement lenses today from Clear Alternatives. They also sent 2 more silver coated 1157 bulbs along with the amber ones. Unfortunately, the weather sucks right now with TS Katrina blowing in. Hopefully get to put them on this weekend.

In bikes with glass mirrors and glass optics you can change this and get really good results. But the C50's I know have a plastic relfector headlight and a plastic lens cover. So be carefull when ordering replacment head lamps also.
I have not tried in a C50, but in some bikes going to a much higher wattage headlight can damage the wiring that is barely sufficient for the stock wattage.

On my way home from work, I noticed the my left front running light was out. When I got home, I tried to remove the clear lens(the new batch) and it was melted. As I tried to slowly remove it the bulb shattered. The filaments are all white and ashen looking. Almost like it burned out. I checked the other front lens and it too was melted again. So I guess, I will be calling CA on Monday.
It's too bad, I really liked the look of the clear lenses. I really noticed a difference when I put the stock orange lenses back on.

Called Matt last week and explained the situation with the lenses and bulbs. He said they were looking into it and working on a fix. He told me to call in a week. Spoke with him yesterday. His response was they put the lenses on a friend's bike and they didn't melt. So now he wants to send me another set of bulbs and lenses. That's a heck of a fix. He wanted me to try the lenses with the orange bulbs. I explained that's how the first set of lenses melted. So he is going to send another set to see if they melt. Hope they do better than the first two sets.

Pinhy, what feedback did you get from Matt?

i think i'll wait for your results before askign for yet another set.

Did you guys ever get any resolution to this issue? I really like the look, but am a bit leary of the product if its going to melt...(nice to have a heads up!) Has anyone else found a similar-looking alternantive?

no pun intended

I had noticed this thread also and went with these for the front:

http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/de...oduct_ID=16188

I have the CA's and bulbs on the back and their still fine.

Fit/look real good and not to expensive if ya decide to swap out the dumbo's down the road.

Hmm it's been 4 months now and I ride at least 4 times a week. Still no melting issues with the lenses *knocks on wood*.

The replacements I was sent seem to be fine. I'm usually riding for an hour or two on Sundays and haven't had any problems. I've got the silver coated bulbs in.

So far the new lenses(3rd set) have not melted. I am using the orange bulbs. I am going to change to the chrome lenses this weekend. I may not get to ride for the next week, the forecast is for rain, rain, and rain.

I bought some LED 1157 base bulbs, but found they were not as bright as stock and did not light up the lense as LED throw light direct.
I am looking at a LED board that uses a 1157 base along with connections for turn signals, on E-bay.
