Default 2008 Suzuki M50 Rear-brake Lock-up

Guys, I need some help.

I recently (June 2009) purchased a brand new 2008 Suzuki M50 (Limited Edition - Silver & Blue) and absolutely love the motorcycle thus far. That is, up until now. I just had the first check-up and oil change done at 800 miles. It would seem, things have gone down hill from there.

Over the past 200 miles since this first check-up & oil change, I'd noticed that the M50 was getting harder to roll around. It seemed like one of the brakes was "dragging", but I really couldn't find anything. And, it wasn't taking enough "extra" effort to raise my suspicions to anything.

Well, while I was out riding with my wife today, I noticed half way through the ride (as I attempted to coast into a stop sign) that the bike was really, seriously "dragging". Upon further investigation, I had no travel in the rear brake pedal, and judging by the handling - the rear brake was definitely "stuck on" to some degree. At that point, we cut our ride short and headed for home. The entire way home, the bike began to drag more and more, as I got progressively more resistance from the rear brake. (Mind you - I was not touching the brake pedal at all, and pulling up on it did no good.) By the time I got home, the rear brake drum was smoking like a camp fire and smelled like burnt brakes from a block away. It was so locked up, that the wife and I could barely push the M50 into the garage.

Well, it's two hours later now, and the rear brake drum is still quite warm. However, interestingly enough - the bike now "free-wheels" / pushes around just fine (like it did when new). But more interesting is that I have excessive rear brake pedal travel and no rear brakes, as far as any stopping power. Oh, and it still smells like burnt brake pads.

My M50 has just over 1000 miles on it. Has anyone else heard of or even had this same problem? My faith and confidence in this motorcycle has been greatly shaken, and I'm not convinced it won't do this to me again. It will be Tuesday before I can talk to my local Dealership, to get their take on it and see what the Suzuki Factory Warranty will cover...

Thanks for any help,
