Default Help removing "blotches" from tank

I bought my bike used and of course there were a few scratches in the clear coat and a couple in the paint. My problem is that since I got the bike I have put 4 or 5 small "smudge" looking spots at the bottom sides of the tank where my thigh touches. I think it is the side seam of my blue jeans doing it when I raise my leg slightly to shift/brake. I've tried a couple of different polishes with no luck. Has anybody tried a more aggressive compound on this bikes paint? I know the clear coat is thin so I am worried a rubbing compound may go through it and hurt the paint more. I know I can put one of those tank bras on it but I don't like the looks of them.
