I just put new rear brake shoes in my M and found something very strange. I thought that I would have to leave the adjuster nut on the brake actuator further back (looser) with the thicker pads on the new shoes. To my surprise, however, I found that I had to move that nut somewhere around 20 clicks (half turns) further forward (tighter) to begin to get the same peddle engagement as before. The first season that I had my bike I adjusted the rear brakes to close, and they overheated, so I am concerned to get them set properly. Question 1) Can someone who know more about this that I do explain what changes and why after putting on new rear brake shoes? Question 2) How much travel should there be at the center of the foot peddle? Question 3) How much travel should there be at the pivot pin on the brake actuator? Any and all comments will be greatly appreciated. |
