Just to toss out another possibility:

Your friend might want to consider the C50 as it has a bit more seat room, and a much better passenger pillion. It also has a bigger visual stance for the visual size balance of rider to bike. For example, the rear fender lengthens the bike by 8 to 9 inches. I am 6'-1" tall and go about 260 lb's, and if I had it to do over I would probably go for the C50.

If he is set on the M, then it should be fine, but the C just seems to be a bit roomier, and would probably be a better visual fit as well. Again, just my 2 cents.

That depends on your/his definition of whats enough power.

Can the bike handle it? of course it can, I can ride 2 up with 350+ lbs on the bike all day long. Does it suffer in response? Yes of course it does, its by no means painfully lacking..but its definately evident compared to when im by myself with no gear.

So to answer your question directly, the m50 can handle your friend without a doubt.

If he's a new rider, 800cc will be enough to start, he will be happy and enjoy its low end torque.

Didn't know professional wrestlers rode M50s........
Seriously though it shows what a great bike these M's are. Easy and fairly cheap mods and strong enough to carry even the bigger guys. Did I mention the sticker price is pretty tasty too?

you need to remember...

the 50 has about what... 45 horse?

small cars back in the day had that much. hah.
it's enough to move you... how quickly you accelerate is a different story..
it's all about power/weight ratio

I liked the feel of the M50 better, seemed more relaxed. And I was looking for a bike that could do 2-up riding, Granted I did have to upgrade the seat!

Here's for the fella who this whole thread started for:

About 4 or so weeks ago, Wife and I were just cursing around town. Down here it's so hot during the days, so evening rides are a great way to cool down and unwind. We left Murfreesboro heading towards Symrna going the speed limit (55) and three cars fly by doing much more then the limit. (I should mention we have to Cardo setup to allow us to chat while riding) Got a bit irritated and did have a good stretch of rode to go yet. So.... I gunned it and heard the wife screaming in the headset.

Blasted by the 3 and put it back down to the speed limit. That sound of her screaming still pops up in conversation now and then and makes me laugh every.... single... time!

If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

At 5' 10" and 350 lb. I'm not needing any more room on my M50, but I figure I'm effectively packing double when I'm on it. No problem with power, but I keep the rear suspension at position 6 of 7 to allow for lots of gear coming along on trips.

Ray Nielsen, in Minneapolis and went for a ride yesterday!

That is wicked as hell. Who cares about the miles, if the engine goes he would still look sweet pushing it around.
