kinda confused even more by this post lol. An air filter that needs oiled?

my problem with trying to figure more about all this is the fact I literally cannot find ANYTHING K&N makes that looks like that for the M. If I could find it, I could do more research on it.

Many motorcycle air filter elements are sprayed or dipped in a sticky oil that helps catch the fine particulates. At least that has been the case for the elements on all the bikes that I've owned.

As for the element, have you looked at these:

Reusable filters will typically require oil. Paper filters are replaceable, because they're cheap, and don't require oil because they're less porous. Less porous=less power, which is why aftermarket filters are more porous, requiring oil to help dust/debris "stick" instead of being sucked in while still providing more airflow.

True K&N motorcycle air filters come pre-oiled and your not required to reoil or recharge them until about 50,000 miles or so depending on your driving conditions. You can take them out and rinse them out to clean them over & over again.

The Importance of Oil
A K&N Air Filter is made of 4 to 6 layers of cotton gauze sandwiched between two epoxy-coated aluminum wire screens. The cotton is treated with a specially formulated grade of oil causing tackiness throughout the cotton’s microscopic strands. The nature of the cotton allows high volumes of airflow, and when combined with the tackiness of the oil creates a powerful filtering media that ensures engine protection. In contrast, most other media can not maintain the same balance of airflow and filtration throughout the filter's life without sacrificing one or the other. With a K&N Air Filter, there is no sacrifice.

Never Replace Your Air Filter Again
Handmade in the USA and in the United Kingdom using only the finest materials, K&N OE Replacement Air Filters are washable and reusable. Regardless of what you’ve heard, it’s almost impossible to wash your K&N Air Filter too much. Inside our testing laboratory, we have washed and re-oiled one K&N Air Filter more than 100 times and it still performs up to specification. Depending on your driving conditions, we recommend cleaning your air filter every 50,000 miles. To clean and re-oil, purchase our filter Recharger® service kit and follow the easy instructions.

K&N Air Filter Cleaning & Oiling Accessories

If you have some generic cotton airfilter exposed to the elements that's not really a good idea.

I use the flash-to-pass button when riding with a low beam (usually at night) to warn people that are TRYING to merge into MY traffic path.
It really freaks them out sometimes as I have seen many drivers slam the brakes because they hadn't seen me until i 'flashed' them.

Hey, you want to really freak your mind? Try adjusting your left hand lever upward to get better comfort on the clutch lever and find that everytime you shift your bright light flashes. HEHE
I've done that on both M50's now, at least I remembered the problem with the first one last week before I thought I had a broken switch.

It is not for the highway, but for two lanes. The idea is that you flash your lights before you pass someone to let them know you are about to pass. That way they do not make a left turn into their driveway just as you are pulling up next to them. I was taught to do that when I first started driving but I don't think they teach it anymore and don't see it anymore.

It's good practise to flash you lights when passing another vehicle. The idea is that it attracts the other driver's attention to the flash in their mirror so that they know you are coming up on the left side - ie they hopefully won't pull out themselves to pass while you're in their blind spot.

As Womper says, when an 18-wheeler passes you it's good practise to flash your lights to let the driver know that he's far enough past you to safely return to your lane. It's not easy to drive one of those rigs and let your eyes dwell on the mirror long enough to properly judge distance.

Flashing headlights to advise you're passing is a common occurrence here in eastern Canada. I'm surprised it's not elsewhere.

That's because most people in the U.S. are stressed out all the time and easily annoyed.

Actually, I think it has more to do with physical limitations. I mean with one hand balancing a coffee cup on the wheel and the other holding a cell phone to your head, how are you supposed to flick your headlights?
