I bought my bike used with a little under 8,000 miles on it a couple of months ago and I've put nearly 2000 more on it. The gear oil was not changed as far as I know by the previous owner (hopefully he did the 600 mile change) and not yet by me. Thought about doing it today but my question is can I use any 90 gear oil that meats specs? I have tons of different brands and weights of gear oil and would like to use those instead of buying more from Suzuki. I have one that is 80W90 that is GL5 rated as well as a couple of bottles of synthetic 75W90 that is GL5 rated. Neither of these say anything about being a "hypoid" gear oil but I think GL5 rating meets this requirement but I may be wrong. Can I use either of these?
