You can also get the vinyl in carbon fibre, so that may be a better solution.

A friend suggested trying a checker pattern like a checkered flag

No, the kit on the gas tank cover is the OEM kit - which I am told is no longer available from Suzuki US.

Carbon fiber would look pretty wild. I'm voting for carbon gray, or perhaps flat black. The one pic with the red stripes looked very orange to me (but I am slightly color blind) like you were trying to make a Harley M50

a real dark and deep blue. i saw a dude in fargo here that had a black m50 and it had stuff air brushed into it. it was a real dark deep blue. it looked sweet. i will try to find a pic of it, i know the shop that did it. it almost looked burried into the paint, like they went over it with a real light coat of black paint or something

Where did you get those, I'm liking them a lot. What would a good color be on a black/silver limited.

Your local signwriter (eg Sign-a-rama) should be able to cut them for you. Otherwise find someone who has a vinyl cutter

I would go silver if the top of the tank / fender are black.

That would look nice. How hard are they to get smooth with no bubbles.

if you have something plasticy, not too hard, to smooth the bubbles out with, its not hard at all. i've done lots of work with that kind of vinyl. the hardest part is gettin it straight.

Getting rid of the bubbles is not too bad. The professionals suggest using a water spray with a couple of drops of dishwashing liquid to provide some flexibility with the install. This allows you to get the decal straight as the water evaporates. I used a 'credit card' to smooth out the bubbles, and assistance of a hair dryer with the curves.

All in all, easy job

OZChris,

The deep orange appearance looks very good as is. I wouldn't touch it. Gives it a bold, mean/classy look

Make sure to use dawn dish soap if your going to do it this way. i havn't had any luck with cheaper dish soaps, especially when tinting windows. This is a good way of putting on just about any large sticker

The CF kit is the Suzuki OEM kit that I believe is no longer available.
