| I will see what I can do about a pic, but it just looks like a black sheepskin seat cover. It is rather sharp, and again, it is more comfortable, but my but still gets numb in the same place, and moving around is harder as the pad is not completely fixed in place.

I went to Americade this year and talk with the owner and they actually tore down my stock seat. Then they roto-zipped out the material, reinstalled the gel pad and replaced with the insulation and covering and restapled the leather. It is as if it was never touched and it is 10x more comfortable and doesn't create any discomfort at all.

What model of bike do you have? I see VStar in your handle. I would consider this, if I could actually count on the comfort you got from it. Can you elaborate more on the feel of the modified seat? I would send the seat in over the winter and have it for next spring. Just to clarify, the Butt Buffer material is not actually a gel. It is a dry polymer that never completely compresses, so that there is always some padding under the contact point, which is why it is supposed to be so much better than gel.

OK, Decision made. The ButtBuffer pad is going back. While the pad does make the seat much more plush and comfortable to sit on, it does not take care of the actual problem, of pain and numbness after 45 min to an hour of riding. It is also very hard to shift around on the seat since the pad is somewhat loosely attached. This is a very nice product, and seems well made, but just does not give me $150 worth of improvement in long distance comfort. I believe that I will just live with my seat and maybe apply this money towards a Mustang Wide Tour sometime in the future. I may, also, consider having the seat modified as that seems to work out better per the comments above by KSpeersvstar950.

Thanks for the report. I'm leaning towards the seat rebuild like KSpeersvstar950 mentioned. I'd have it done to the stock seat which is 13.5" wide instead of the gel seat at 11" wide. I think the narrow width is part of my problem. Note the link to Buttbuffer install in my previous post. The Mustang seat might be the best answer for me (I've got a S50) but it's expensive considering I've already spent $200 on this problem. On pictures I've seen it looks too big on my bike. But as it stands now my bike is useless for long trips for me. That's it, the answer, I need a new bike.

The Butt Buffer went back today, and I have to admit that I am more that a little disappointed that it didn't work better. Again, one problem was that, while the straps and latches held it on the seat well enough, it is hard to shift positions on a loosely attached seat pad. It also just did not protect from the numbness and pain after an hour of riding.

Yeah I tried a few gimmick products right when I bought the M50, but luckily someone on here sold me their Corbin Solo Seat and I've been taking 8 hr no break rides ever since. Love the seat upgrade / Corbin option.

I dont sell em, and really avtually like my stock seat, but I went on a ride in AZ through the mountains on a bike that had...get this, a friggin beaded seat cover. Comfy? Its an odd feeling. But me backside didnt have a problem ridin it into NM. The way back, I took it off...the only difference? Heat and the obligatory dampness from cycling in 106F. Not used to that being from MI.... Anyone got one of those? |
