so out of curiosity - why don't you have a sport bike instead, seems like it would be more up your alley?

The M50 is my first bike. I bought it because I love the way it looks, and because it was said to handle really well for a bike of that appearance. I drove my truck at or below the flow of traffic, so I had not planned on riding the way I do. If I had, I would have bought a sport tourer like the Triumph Sprint ST (my current obsession).

Which bike has the more valuable parts to sell after somebody wads you up?

first, thanks to cardude for holding my hand so i could see the video.
As for the video,I think it looks worse than it is due to the speeding up process but there were a couple of moments were I thought you might get creamed.I couldnt drive like that but i'm not about to tell you not to,your a big boy.I just think you have a lot more trust in the cagers than I do.Its not your driving skill you have to worry about, its the hundred plus or so cars you passed. You can be sure there's going to be some little old lady who is going to slip up and not see you coming.
production quality of the video was great.very entertaining and I'm not big on girl singers but that song and music fit perfect.good luck to ya man.

I haven't been invincible for 20 years. I'd never ride like that... NEVER. That being said, sooner or later, riding the way you do, you'll become another statistic, and more than likely dead. Just hope there's an EMT behind you when it happens. As much as you might want to believe it, you can't read the minds of the people around you. You don't know what they're going to do. Someone could just change lanes without warning and if you happen to be splitting lanes at that time, you're toast. I'd say if you want to ride like that, then take your bike to the track.

I was thinking, don't try this in WV!! People get crazy road rage here, in the past month some guy purposely cut me off just to be a douche bag. I'm sure everyone has ran into these types, they just don't like bikes for some reason and it seems like they try to hit you? Anyway, that gave ME road rage, so I followed him and he started hitting his limiter (right around 105) my saddlebags started shaking so I had to pull over to tighten them, or else I think I woulda followed the guy till he stopped that's how pissed I was. Anyway, watch out for those types, and try to stay calm!!

You're the type of idjit that get's not only yourself but other people killed. Riding fast on an empty road is fine, in traffic like that is retarded. Used to be a guy that pulled that crap going up the 101 in the mornings when I would ride to work, he'd come so fast I wouldn't see him in the dark then pass either between me and another car, or on the should forcing me into the next lane almost causing me to hit the other cars. Used to do it every friggin day. I hear he's just a big splotch of blood they couldn't clean up on the road now. A guilty pleasure is something you indulge in that may only hurt yourself, when it could hurt others, it's stupid and selfish.

Default Seriously!

I'm just curious here. Have you thought of anyone but yourself when you do this? Sure, odds are you will kill yourself driving like this someday, and maybe the accident won't physically hurt anyone else. But you will change someone's life for the worse when it happens. That person will have to live with the accident you caused by doing this, they will have to live with the knowledge about being part of your death. That will change that person forever. It will not only affect them, but their families/friends as well. They may never recover from the psychological damage it causes. Ok your life is in a bad place and your surrounded by tragedy now but do you honestly think you should cause that for someone else? Get your head out of your ass and be responsible. Try thinking of other people for once and look at how your actions could affect those around you and not just yourself.

This goes to you and to anyone else who actually rides like this. Sure your giving bikers a bad name but your also doing much much worse!

I don't mind your opinions one bit. As you might guess I get to hear the opinions of motorists in the form of little horns as I ride along.

My average speed on the video is about 80 MPH even tho my silly speedometer says something like 90.

I wear a helmet just in case I fall off on the way to and from the freeway.

Maybe you at least enjoyed the music?

I do realize that getting run over by 15 cars would be kinda %%%%ty after suffering a fall off of the bike.

I feel that theme parks are both expensive and a tad boring. The whole thing about motorcycling is the freedom, the precision required to keep it rubber side down at all times, and the extreme consequence for infinitesimally small decisions made in an instant. Roller coasters are just a comfy place to sit while you enjoy the scenery and the ingenuity of someone else. A time and a place for them arguably, but not so much for me. Thank you though, for the suggestion.

I don't really feel I'm much of a risk to other motorists. Because lane splitting is not banned in California, it's not an uncommon enough sight for cars to get surprised or frightened by it. I get passed up by sportbike riders doing 100mph all the time. That's right, in CA you have to check your mirrors while driving between the two left most lanes because motorcycle traffic piles up there and you move over and let faster traffic through. This is not "proof" that it's OK, I'm simply saying that CA drivers (at least in NorCal where I live) are fairly jaded to motorcycle splitting traffic and aren't going to drive into each other just because I've cruised up beside their mirrors.

Cars merge into me all the time when riding this speed, but I don't fault them because when they checked over their shoulder before merging, I wasn't there. I expect them to move suddenly, and you can see on the vid I react to them merging over very easily with lots of room to spare. There were actually many cars that merged into my path that I had planned in my head, not just the one my bike actually took, but you just quickly make new plans and you're golden.

As for vigilance, you can see I spotted the cop early on and slowed down till he exited the freeway, and later on I-5, there was a piece of tire in the road while splitting and I dropped back into a lane to avoid it before proceeding.

As for a responsibility to my family, I don't have kids. My wife (who I've been with for 8 yeas now) is terminally ill. I'm not looking to live to 100, though I'm not looking to kill myself either. But if my greatest joy in life is being stripped from me in my early twenties, you bet your ass I'm going to forgo some of my normal worrying and enjoy the hell out of some %%%% I used to find a bit risky. I walk around all day completely numb to everything. The world is sort of gray scale and uniform. On my commute home though the blue sky is vibrant, the grass is green and the pavement is a murderous, poorly maintianed, gauntlet of obstacles that requires my full attention and then some as I head on the long journey home. (my work is much farther from my house than this trip from the university) Sounds stupid to most people, but seriously, please only respond on that particular point if you are in a similar boat. Otherwise, you just have no idea.

Thanks for your feedback. I am still looking for people to hopefully confirm that I'm not alone out here, or better, to have a vid themselves that makes me look like on old lady. I've only been riding a year, so there has to be someone else out there, even if they aren't on this forum, with some fantastic looking video.

To those that I've offended. I am honestly sorry if my post has made you angry. I do very much hate it when posts make me angry. I wanted to survey the opinions of worldwide cruiser owners, specifically ones with the very agile M50 because it is quite capable of navigating fluidly through fast moving traffic. Though I was hopeful in finding some other people who found some joy in their long commute in as similar manner as I have, I did also expect to see the very intelligent, informed, perfectly reasonable opinions of those who would love nothing more than to see me crash so I can stop sullying the name of good motorcyclists.

I don't think you are wimps, or bla bla insert derogatory biking term here. I just hope you recognize that each of your opinions is derived from a single world view shaped by a lifetime of experiences, and that all thoughts on what is right or wrong, intelligent or stupid, safe or risky are really on a continuum of morality, intelligence, and risk. There are people who think riding a bike is moronic due to the difference in protection between a bike and a car. Some people jump bikes hundreds of feet over cars through flaming circles. And some people just plug along on their motorcycles enjoying the motorway and getting there when they get there. I am just one more person who hasn't chosen any of those particular options, and was curious how many others out there chose like me.

MEGAVIDEO - I'm watching it
(video is sped up for quick overview purposes. Music added because sped up engine sounds like a ninja 250 at redline)

Feel free to berate me as a moronic squid. That's fine with me. I just could not overcome my curiosity for finding out if anyone else uses the M50 in this particular manner.

I don't drive like this when I'm out pleasure riding, but when I'm commuting I am like a man possessed by severe impatience. Not to mention that I quite enjoy riding like this, even if it is a guilty pleasure.

The traffic I deal with is a bit more spread out than this..... But I drive to work in a similar fashion. No lane splitting though... No real need for it.

Only to work. Driving home is at 1030-11 at night. No traffic...no fun.

This is simply not true.

He can ride wherever he pleases, but not however. When you sign for your drivers/motorcycle license you agree to follow the laws of the road. By riding like that you are breaking the law and thus not living up to your end of the agreement you made when receiving the privilege of using public roads. You are endangering others around you and not just yourself. Feel free to ride like that on the track, but keep those antics off the roads and away from my family.

Sure you can get hurt or killed, but guess what buddy, you can get hurt or killed every single time you go out for a ride. Hopefully he wears good gear!! 08M50Rider I hope you had a blast, I havent even watched the video yet. Keep riding how ya feel man. Oh yeah and don't let people like EasyRider get under your skin too much, they just don't have the same taste for fun, excitement and danger as some of us other folks. Which brings me to my next point, if you're going to rep a name like EasyRider, you better change your attitude. Shoot I'd be suprized if you've ever even seen that movie, you sir are a disgrace to the EasyRider name...... Pretty sure Fonda would have to agree, ya damn sissy.

Default Business 80 and I 5 South to the Pocket?

I think I recognize the route and think I've seen you! Was this going west on Business 80 in Sacramento from 99 toward the river, then South on I5 past Land Park area and into the Pocket area? Did you exit west on Florin Road? Just curious.....
