Yeah sorry I see little to no resemblance between the new M50 and 900 custom. They both have the normal amount of chrome for a cruiser, and they both a swept down tail, but that too is pretty normal. I have to agree with Bob and Dave on this one. If it isn't selling then they have to change it. I personally love the current M50 styling as do most of you, but we aren't the majority of the market, and we already have our bikes. The M109 has everyone's eye right now, so taking styling bits from it and adding to the smaller bikes in the line (M90 M50) only makes good sense. I have a feeling this will be the last effort that they make with the M50. They have changed the colors every year for the last 3 years trying to get more riders, but they haven't gotten them. If this one doesn't work I have a feeling the M50 will go the way of the M95...

Suzuki did marketing studies, soliciting feedback from people who bought something else or were strongly considering something other then the M50 to find out what it was about the M50 that made them not buy it. I filled out one of these surveys myself a couple year ago. They also got feedback from dealers, to find out why they did not sell very many of them. The styling was apparently tops on the list, so they changed it to be more like the C50, M90, and M109, all of which outsell the M50 by a considerable margin. The riding position was another area of critisism, which is why they pulled the bars back some. Suzuki has been talking about killing off the S50 for several years, so they really need to have an 800cc bike that appeals to people who do not want the fat look of the C50. They need to have a bike in the $7800 range that takes sales away from the Vulcan 900 Custom and the V-star 950 while still making them a profit.

I really do have to chuckle a little at comments that they should have added a 6-speed tranny. Even if you forget that the M50 is in a very price-sensitive segment of the market, if Suzuki doesn't put a 6-speed in the $15,000 C109, they sure aren't going to put one in a cruiser that costs half that and make there top of the line bikes look bad.

I don't particularly like it, but applaud Suzuki for caring enough to redesign the M50, rather than just giving up on it, like they did the S83, the Marauder, the Madura, and other cruiser models that have come and gone.
I guess I have to admit I am part of a minority, those that prefer a cruiser that is not the same chrome to the max Harley or Harley want-a-be. I like the look of my M50 because it had a different kind of raw look.
I wish Suzuki well with this, I have to say I am pretty sure my next bike will not be a Suzuki. I understand a need to change evolve, I do not have to like it.

That headlight assy would look really quite good with the addition of the rest of the current bike and the silver wheels do create a longer looking bike. Over all I like some of the changes, but the ass end, chrome sides detract and almost create a dual personality bike. I think I might try to integrate the headlight assy on my 05.....possibly look at how they color changed the wheels (just to be different) but the back end of my M is just too good to mess with. I like some....hate the rest. I assure you when I hand the keys over to the wife as I move to the next bike it will not be the 2010 styled M50 that I know.

Well lets see. Since I just bought the M90 I am torn. I still have the 50 also and really like the blacked out look of my 50. Like some of the others have already mentioned why would Suzuki change a few things for minimal performance gains to attract a few buyers that already have the current version of the M. Most of us wouldn't buy a new one for a disk brake and 5 extra ponies and ft. pounds of torque. That being said I bet the new one will look much better with a rear seat cowl and I always reserve judgement until I see the bike in person since Suzuki can not seem to release any high quality pictures of any of the bikes they produce. Overall though from the picture it doesn't seem to work very well.

I bought my 06 model because the bike struck me as unique and different. I've just been riding a month now but have been parked next to alot of different bikes at local get-togethers and love how my bike is so much different than the rest, even though it is near stock. I don't think I would buy the new model though, doesn't have the same appeal. Plan to ride mine for many years so maybe when the time comes to trade they will have changed it again.

Since I was taught that if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all, I will admit I like the mirrors.

they should have at least made the cowled solo seat if they are going for that muscle look. The M90 and M109 dont have passengers seats so why the M50 which has the least power of all three

The 90 and 109 both have the ugly seat unless you remove it and put the optional cowl cover on.

I am sure it will be an option. I was looking at getting an M90 or a used 109, but not if the 50's are going to look the same. 800cc is not enough power to go for that look.

Frankly, this looks like the Kaw 900 Custom with a goofy headlight.

I hate it. I really hate it.
I completely agree with you.

Looks like the 2005 - 2009 M50's will be collectors items now! Those are the best looking bikes by far. I don't mind change, but only if it's an improvement. This bike looks completely gay. Totally thrown together with no identity.

Suzuki should have talked to us on the forum and gotten feedback from actual M50 riders as to what they wanted to see. Out of all the M series bikes from 2010 going forward the only one I like now is the M109.

If Kawasaki can put a 6-speed transmission in the $5000.00 Vulcan 500, don't tell me Suzuki couldn't figure out how to put one in the M50.

2009 Vulcan® 500 LTD Cruisers - Kawasaki.com

The M50 is always only going to attract a certain relatively small segment of the riding public. No Harley riders are going to be interested in it at all and only cruiser riders that want a little sportier look and mid size power are going to want it. So you might as well get feedback from them since there the ones who are going to purchase them.

Well... there goes the neighborhood... Of all the things I looked at when I bought my 08, the icing on the cake was how it looked. I REALLY am not impressed with the new look. Even my 12 and 14 year olds said ewwwww when they saw the pic. Guess I should start saving for the Vmax I always wanted!!!

PHAIL!

The Good:
'C' style oval mirrors

The Bad:
Seat and rear fender do not flow with the lines of the bike.
Headlight cowl sucks, plain sucks.
Chrome engine sides, blah.
Silver wheels , ugh.
Big assed air cleaner cover from the 09, meh.
