Default A possible solution to my GPS problem?

I have a Garmin Nuvi 680, which was made for the car, but I need it to work on my bike.

I got the mounting covered, but my new problem is external power source.

With the internal battery alone, it will run 2 1/2 hours maximum when navigating. I need it to run 5+ hours.

I currently have a few solutions, some are more practical than others, but I would like to know if anyone has solved this problem better than I currently have.

1. Get an external battery w/ usb-mini out and put in some charge time while riding on long straight roads where the GPS isn't needed at that particular time (mot impractical solution, but easy enough)

2. Direct wire to the bike battery and solve all my problems BUT, this solution leaves me a little worried because of loose hanging wires, which I might have to tape together and make my bike look retarted.

3. Any external device that I have yet discovered that might be used to charge the GPS without it going into USB mode? (I am still on the look-out for one of these)

Any suggestions appreciated!

Thanks.
