Default Buyers remorse?

I think I may have bought the wrong bike for me. After putting 1500 miles on this bike, I really have no complaints other than I'm bored with the power and it's a little rough on the lower back, being that I have previous minor back problem. What makes cruisers so hard on the lower back? I'm thinking it's the forward controls.

My last bike was a CBR600 and I knew I didn't want another all out sport bike because I hated the low clip-ons and the way my wrists would get sore during any ride longer than a half hour. Not to mention the "peaky" power band and having to drop a few gears to pass.

Now I'm thinking I should have went with a standard like a Bandit1250 or even the Kawi 650r is starting to appeal to me. As it is I think I will ride the M for at least another year before I make a decision to sell it.

Given my criteria for upright seating position and good low end power, are there any other bikes I should be considering?
